GCMHPcarriedoutanawarenessactivitytargetingdisplacedchildreninthetemporaryshelters oftheMawasiareainKhanYounis,aspartofitsongoingeffortstoprovidepsychosocialsupport to children affected by the war.
Theactivityconsistedoftwoconsecutivesessionstitled“RecoveringfromCrises”,attendedby 27 girls and 30 boys of various age groups. The sessions aimed to raise children’s awareness of the psychological impact of crises and equip them with practical skills to cope with negative emotions such as sadness, fear, and anxiety. Key topics covered included:
Understandingthenatureofemotionsthataccompanycrises Safe and simple techniques to manage these emotions
Practical deep-breathing exercises
Theimportanceofhobbies,positiveself-talk,acceptance,andcontentment
Children were also introduced to the services provided by GCMHP, and awareness materials and brochures containing useful information and free psychological support contact numbers were distributed. This activity responded to the growing need for field-based psychosocial interventionsforchildrenaffectedbycrises,aimingtoenhancetheircopingskillsandsupporta gradual return to a more stable and secure life.
