GCMHP conducted an awareness session attended by 27 mothers, aiming to enhance their understanding of the psychological trauma children may experience due to distressing events.
The session began with an open dialogue where mothers shared the behavioral changes they had observed in their children. The discussion then focused on key topics:
What is psychological trauma? How it affects children.
Common symptoms: such as nightmares, bedwetting, withdrawal, or extreme anger.
The mother’s role in support: through active listening, providing safety, using play and drawing for emotional expression, and maintaining daily routines.
When to seek professional help: emphasizing the importance of early intervention and consulting specialists when necessary.
Mothers were also trained in a simple deep-breathing exercise that could be practiced with children to help calm them during stressful moments. Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share their personal experiences and confirmed that the session helped them better understand their children’s psychological needs.
