GCMHP held an awareness session for a group of 30 women to mark World Suicide Prevention Day, observed on September 10. The session aimed to enhance women's understanding of mental health amid the daily pressures caused by the ongoing war, and to introduce practical tools to help reduce momentary stress and anxiety, while emphasizing the importance of seeking psychological support when needed. The meeting began with an open discussion designed to break the ice and create a safe environment for participation. Facilitators then introduced the concept of stress, providing a simplified explanation of its physical, psychological, and behavioral symptoms, supported by interactive questions that helped participants relate the information to their own experiences. Participants were also trained on practical techniques to manage acute anxiety.
The session also clarified when specialized mental health care is needed, such as persistent or worsening symptoms, noticeable impact on daily functioning or children’s wellbeing, or signs of severe depression. A simple explanation of psychological disorders was provided, along with guidance on differentiating between temporary stress and conditions requiring professional follow-up. The session concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing to address psychological pressures despite the challenges, and with a reminder of the free support services available through GCMHP’s toll-free hotline: 1800222333, offering psychological guidance and assistance when needed.
