Specialized Training Enhances Trauma-Sensitive Media Coverage in Gaza

GCMHP conducted a specialized training course titled "Guidelines on Trauma-Sensitive Media Coverage" for journalists from the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote media practices that support mental health.

The training is part of the activities of the Technical Working Group for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, implemented in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and GCMHP. Its aim is to raise journalists' awareness of the importance of trauma-sensitive media coverage and to develop their skills in handling the stories of victims and survivors in accordance with professional and humanitarian principles.

The training covered a range of guidelines and practices that contribute to protecting the dignity of those affected and being sensitive to their psychological state during media coverage. This strengthens the media's role in conveying the truth responsibly and reduces the risk of re-traumatization or causing further psychological harm. The training underscores the importance of the media as an active partner in supporting recovery and promoting mental health at the community level.

The two-day training took place in the training hall at the Deir al-Balah Community Center, which is affiliated with GCMHP.
