“GCMHP Director Highlights the Plight of Gaza’s Children”

Dr. Yasser Abu Jameh, Director General of the Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP), published an article titled “Childhood Memories in Times of Extermination” in This Week in Palestine, shedding light on the devastating psychological impact of war on children in Gaza.

Dr. Abu Jameh emphasized the suffering of thousands of children living amid displacement, deprivation, and fear, noting how their drawings and games reflect the trauma they endure— from loss of safety to witnessing destruction and losing loved ones.

He highlighted that GCMHP provided psychological support services to over 40,000 children in 2024 despite harsh conditions and limited resources, affirming that field teams continue their humanitarian work even after the loss of many mental health professionals during the aggression.

Abu Jameh stressed that the plight of Gaza’s children should not be read merely as statistics, but as real cries expressed through tears and faded colors, calling on the international community to assume responsibility in protecting this generation and ensuring their right to childhood and peace.
