The GCMHP conducted a series of awareness sessions for students at Al-Azhar University in Gaza on psychological stress and its effects, as part of the project "Improving the Availability and Accessibility of Youth and their Caregivers to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Quality Services in the Gaza Strip." This project is implemented in partnership with the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) and funded by the Belgian government.
The meeting introduced students to the concept of psychological stress and its types, highlighting the most prominent sources of stress they face in the sector. The psychological, physical, and behavioral effects of stress were also explained. Students were equipped with skills to cope with stress in daily life, including when, where, and how to seek help. They were also informed about the free psychological counseling hotline, 1800222333. The meetings saw positive interaction from the students, who shared their personal experiences with psychological stress. At the end of the meetings, the importance of mental health awareness as an essential part of overall health was emphasized, along with the reminder that seeking help is a strength, not a weakness.
